Matsuri recently opened in the Infinity Shopping Center in Kirchberg, and I was curious to try it since it is already a well known sushi chain, especially in Paris where it has quite a reputation.
First of all, I have to say that I am not the biggest sushi fan. If I am really hungry, I would normally go for something heavier like a burger, fries, or pizza. But this place definitely made me appreciate sushi more.
The sushi here is very well thought out. The combinations feel carefully researched, with great balance between flavors and textures. Many bites have a nice umami touch that rounds everything together, making them really enjoyable.
The concept with the classic sushi conveyor belt works very well, and it is nice to see the chefs preparing everything in front of you. The presentation of the sushi is also very elegant, making it feel more refined than fast food.
The restaurant itself is nicely designed. I liked the chairs and the height of the tables, although the seats could use a back support. The menu design is colorful and playful, giving a nice Japanese touch. Personally, I think the space could be pushed even further with some neon style signs to give it more of that Japanese night street atmosphere.
Besides sushi, they also offer hot dishes made to order. I did not try many of them, but the ramen looked very good and the chicken skewers were excellent. The gyoza, however, were a bit disappointing as they lacked vegetables and did not stand out much.
They also have a very nice drink selection, which I really appreciated.
Regarding the price, I have mixed feelings. It is understandable compared to other sushi places, but it is probably not somewhere most people will eat every day. For a casual occasion or a nice meal out though, it is definitely worth it.
Overall, Matsuri is a very welcome addition to Luxembourg. Among the many sushi places in the city that can feel either too classic or just not very good, this one stands out with quality, creativity, and a fun dining concept.
